From Coast to Countryside, Including Our North East Favourites 🌊

The UK is packed with paddleboarding gems, from wild coastlines to serene inland waters, and here at Wave SUPs, we love discovering new places to launch. Whether you're a complete beginner looking for calm, shallow waters or a seasoned paddler chasing waves and wilderness, there's a location waiting for your next adventure.

As a North East-based brand, we’ve included a few of our favourite local spots to shine a light on the underrated beauty of our own backyard.

So, board at the ready, here’s where to explore next:

Cullercoats Beach, North Tyneside

Sheltered and scenic, Cullercoats is a go-to favourite for locals and newcomers alike. With calm waters and easy access to nearby Tynemouth, you can paddle along the coastline, duck into caves at low tide, or enjoy a post-paddle coffee by the shore. It gets busy in summer, so aim for early mornings or golden hour for a peaceful session.

Druridge Bay Country Park, Northumberland

A quiet gem with a tranquil freshwater lake that’s ideal for beginners or families. Surrounded by woodland and wildlife, the lake is often calm, with convenient parking and wide open space to practise your paddling skills.

Tynemouth Longsands & Bay

A little more exposed than its neighbours, Tynemouth is perfect for paddlers looking to level up. While the waves can be livelier, the views of the Priory from the sea are well worth the effort. It’s also a great starting point for coastal routes and has some of the best beachside cafés in the region.

River Coquet, Warkworth to Amble

If peaceful paddling through postcard-perfect landscapes is your thing, the River Coquet offers a unique inland SUP route. Glide past stone bridges, spot wildlife, and enjoy the calmness of one of Northumberland’s most charming waterways.

Blyth Harbour, Northumberland

A surprising sunrise favourite. Launch near the bridge or harbour for glassy early-morning waters and unbeatable calm. It’s a lesser-known spot that’s perfect for a tranquil start to the day.

UK-Wide Must-Paddle Spots:

Newquay & Fistral Beach, Cornwall

For those who crave waves and adventure, Cornwall's surf capital is a must. Fistral Beach is great for more advanced paddlers and surf SUPers, with stunning coastal views and a lively paddle scene.

North Landing Beach, Flamborough, East Yorkshire

Paddle through caves, arches and secret coves. As pictured by ladthatsups, launch from North Landing Beach and explore all the hidden spots it has to offer.

Derwentwater, Lake District

Calm, scenic, and surrounded by mountains, Derwentwater is the picture of paddleboarding peace. Ideal for a relaxing float or a longer exploration of its tiny islands and inlets.

Loch Ness, Scottish Highlands

Paddle across legendary waters (Nessie sightings not guaranteed!) Loch Ness offers dramatic landscapes, remote serenity, and a true bucket-list adventure.

Norfolk Broads

A slow-paced labyrinth of connected waterways, perfect for those wanting a longer, exploratory paddle. Cruise past waterside villages and open skies, ideal for beginners and leisure paddlers.

Barafundle Bay, Pembrokeshire

Tucked away behind cliffs and only accessible by foot, this secluded beach rewards your effort with Caribbean-clear waters and golden sands. A dream location for a quiet coastal paddle.
